Beauport, Sleeper-McCann House | Gloucester, MA
The landscape restoration at Beauport, the summer home of Henry Davis Sleeper, one of America's first professional interior designers, was undertaken by Historic New England to create a landscape that better fits within the interpretation period of this National Historic Landmark. Historic photos of the property and landscape records were used to inform the new design. Existing brick-edged peastone pathways were removed and realigned, site drainage improvements were undertaken and new landscape lighting was added. The planting palette included the installation over 5,500 native grass plugs as the ground plain to a variety of native trees, shrubs and perennials.
